Hart Steel Straight Razors - A Great Shaving Pleasure
I just had my first shave with the Hart razor and yes you are right you could probably shave with it in the dark. Its a very smooth razor and beautiful craftsmanship.

6/8 Hart Steel Straight Razors - SOLD OUT

In 2009 a group of craftsmen collaborated in the USA to form Hart Steel and to make razors the cottage industrial way: By hand.

The non-stainless carbon steel is heat treated in a molden salt bath to prevent carbon loss (decaborisation) and oxidation of the steel. This also ensures dimensional stability during the hardening process.
After this the razor blanks will be cooled in liquid nitrogen. This gives a much better and more fully grain structure to the steel than normal cooling. Then they are triple tempered to ensure a hardness of 63 Rockwell (HRC).

Every razor will be ground by hand, electrochemically etched at the tang, mounted to the scales and sharpened by hand (and not with machines like in a usual razor production). All of this is done by one person which initials you can find at the back of the tang. Hart steel razors are done in small quantities so they are not mass produced like most of the razors. They are the American equivalent to the Japanese kamisori.
We at Rasurpur check every razor for you and touch it up to our high standards of sharpening and then we pack it thoroughly before we send it out.

These razors are very pleasant in size and weight, have a nice grip and shave very superb. The dimensions are quite generous so that even thicker fingers find enough space to lie on.
Shaving with them is quite easy (a friend told us that you could probably shave with them in the dark….), smooth and gentle; nearly as easy as with a DE razor.
We recommend these for beginners and pros alike and if you are looking for a one-and-only everyday shaver this is probably the one.
Be a part in this new straight razor history of the U.S.A. with a Hart Steel Straight Razor.

Hart Steel 6/8 Round Nose & Straight Nose With Black Scales - Matté Finish

Hart Steel Straight Razor with 63 HRC and handmade "serrations" at the lower side of the tang.
This straight razor leaves enough space even for bigger hands, is well balanced and shaves really nice, smooth and easy.

The blade is a 1/4 grind. This way the blade is more "rugged" and outlives some mistakes which can happen to beginners sometimes (too much force while stropping and shaving).
The etching at the tang is done electrochemically. So it is not as clear and fine as a laser etching but underlines the more "robust" Charme of this razor.
The black hart silicone scales are cut from one piece. The surface has a matt finish and can be mistaken for ebony at first glance. They have a very nice feel, are water restistant and balance the razor very well.
The scales are not pinned to the razor the "traditional" way but screwed on with a hex screw. This way you can change the scales easily, clean them and loosen or tighten the screw for your own liking.

Although the price might not suggest it: This razor is an excellent one for beginners and for the rest of us as well. You will love the shave.

We even recommend this razor to barbers. The blade is a bit tougher than normal fully hollowed razors have and you can even trim out the neck with it. (If you are using a razor on hair without proper shaving preparation, it will dull faster! The very cutting edge itself is as fragile and thin as with any other good razor.)

If you are looking for an uncomplicated All-round shaver for every day this is probably the one for you.

Weight: 70 Gramm
Length total: 117 mm
Length of cutting edge: 65 mm / Straight Nose: 70 mm
Width of back/tang: 5 mm

The edges of both razors have a hardly noticeable and very small "swing" (in reference to the old Wade & Butcher straight razors) which is more noticeable with the straight head due to its little bit longer edge. This gentle "swing" improves the cutting of the razor and is not a defect.
Comes with black Hart Steel deerskin pouch with oil and a hex wrench tool.

Exchange Scales For 6/8 and 7/8 Hart Steel Straight Razors

Exchange your black Hart Steel scales for beautiful brown Bocote (photo on the left) or reddish Cocobolo (photo on the right).
Just place your razor in front of you on your desk. (You may want to put a paper tissue underneath.)
Unscrew the hex screw while the razor is closed and transplant the blade to the other scales together with the teflon washers. Put the screw back together and tighten it gently.
A suitable hex wrench comes with every Hart Steel Straight Razor.

Do not bump the edge into anything and keep your fingers away from it.
HINT:
The new hole in the scales is very tight. Best is to squezze the screw in with gentle force without the blade first and take it out again.

Abura Tsubo - Japanese Oil Applicator - EMPTY

You don't want to put oil on a piece of cloth every time you want to oil your knives and razors or tools?
Here is the solution.
Open the bottle in the middle and pour a very small amount of oil (f.i. Ballistol) onto the cotton. Then close it again and after some short time you can apply the oil with the wide wick at the top under the red cap.
The quite stiff wick will soften with use and time.
No dripping, no smelling (and in case you want to use Ballistol but you do not like the smell of it this is a great solution).
Made in Japan.
